Freeman

Freeman was the location of a service station along Arizona's State Route 84. State Route 84 was routed through here in 1928, bypassing the earlier Lone Star Trail to the north and providing a shorter connection from Tucson to Gila Bend. Sometime before the mid-1940s H.S. Freeman opened his service station, Freeman's Roll-Inn, selling gasoline, refreshments, beer, and confections. In 1948 it was noted to be the only business operating between Casa Grande and Gila Bend. I'm not sure when it closed, but it was probably around the mid-1960s, at which time State Route 84 was being replaced by Interstate 8.
