Grant

To take advantage of the post-WWII recreation boom, John Grant purchased property along US-6/395 in 1947 and began building a small handful of businesses to serve travelers and tourists. He called the new 'community' Grant, and by the end of 1948 completed construction on a service station, store, garage, and the J.G. Motel. An airstrip was also built, allowing sportsmen to stay at Grant overnight before being flown into the Sierras the next day.

Over the years, Grant's services have undergone ownership and name changes, and all appear to be closed today. Most famous is the former store, later renamed the Airflite Café, which served as a backdrop in the 1961 Twilight Zone episode "A Hundred Yards Over the Rim".
